Melissa Hellmann, South King County reporter at The Seattle Times, has left to join The Center for Public Integrity, where she will be covering racial, gender and economic inequality.
Her new role begins on Aug. 24.
Previously, Hellmann was an artificial intelligence reporter at the Times. She also works freelance and is the president of the Seattle Association of Black Journalists.
Hellmann was also a staff writer at Seattle Weekly and was a reporting fellow at YES! Media. She was also a legislative reporter at the Associated Press and an education reporter at Oakland North.
Hellmann has also interned at Time Magazine and SF Weekly.
Hellmann holds a master’s degree in journalism from University of California at Berkeley.
