The Washington Post has hired Shirley Qiu as news analytics editor, a role in which she will help the Post to increase its data fluency in the newsroom and glean insights from its analytics tools.
She starts Aug. 23.
Qiu joins from the American Press Institute, where she helped newsrooms globally use the Metrics for News analytics tool to understand their data and inform editorial strategy. Before that, she was a features producer at the Seattle Times.
Qiu graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in journalism and international studies. She also serves as vice president of communications for the Asian American Journalists Association.
