Business Insider is seeking an Editor in our UK newsroom to lead our weekend team and run our weekend coverage on a Wednesday-Sunday schedule.

The Role & Team:

We’re looking for a weekend editor who is excited to drive BI’s coverage on Saturdays and Sundays, and to help out across the team for three days during the week. As Weekend Editor, you’ll work closely with our UK weekend reporters to assign and edit stories tailored to our target audience.

The weekend team covers business news in a conversational and compelling way for our audience, who want fresh angles they can’t get anywhere else on topics important to our readers, such as finance, the workplace, Trump and DOGE, military strategy, and entertainment.

The Weekend Editor should be excited to juggle a range of stories — from scoops to breaking news to analysis. They should be prepared to jump into the news and write stories themselves on occasion.

The Weekend Editor will also work on executing audience strategy, including curating the homepage, sending push alerts and programming across BI’s platforms.

This role is varied, fast-paced, and will require you to coordinate with Business Insider’s global newsroom. The role is a hybrid position, with the Weekend Editor expected to come into our Old Street-based office up to three days a week. This role reports into the Senior Editor for business news.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive coverage of big stories on Saturdays and Sunday, and assigning and editing story ideas throughout the week for day-to-day assignments as well as bigger projects
  • Ensure stories are well framed and structured, in line with Business Insider reporting standards, and work with executive editors and legal to publish sensitive stories
  • Support in managing Owned & Operated operations and strategy, including homepage curation and approving and sending push alerts.
  • Set clear goals for direct reports and providing feedback
  • Train and coach fellows and reporters to develop in their skills and careers

The ideal candidate has:

  • Proven experience covering and editing business stories for a digital publication
  • Great news judgement
  • Experience working at speed
  • Excellent editing, writing and communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • A strong sense of what makes a great story
  • The drive to manage and motivate a team
  • Experience using analytics to help inform coverage
  • A desire to work collaboratively with the team in the UK and wider global
