NY Times announces Headway team

The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The New York Times:

Vera Titunik rejoined The Times in July as Headway’s deputy editor. She will play a leading role in planning, assigning and developing stories that accord with Headway’s mission. She spent more than a dozen years at The Times, first as a story editor for the magazine and then as the editor of Sunday Business, before leaving to become the executive editor of newyorker.com. In 2017, she became the features editor for WIRED.

Jason Chiu began on Monday, Sept. 27, as Headway’s deputy visual editor. Previously, as the deputy head of visual journalism for The Globe and Mail, Jason led a team of nearly three dozen people in two countries and three time zones to create powerful, illuminating stories for a range of platforms.

Alexandra Garcia has joined the Headway team as senior visual editor. Since 2018, Alex has directed and produced documentaries for “The New York Times Presents” and “The Weekly” on FX and Hulu. Her work has garnered numerous Emmy Awards, a Peabody nomination and a host of other accolades. Before joining The Times, Alex was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard and a video journalist and multimedia editor for The Washington Post.

Terry Parris Jr., will begin on Monday, Oct. 18, as Headway’s public square editor. Most recently, Terry has been the engagement director at THE CITY, where he developed several impactful community engagement initiatives such as Missing Them, a collaborative project to report and tell stories about the thousands of New Yorkers who’ve lost their lives to Covid-19. Terry joined THE CITY from ProPublica. Before moving to New York, Terry built a record of digital and community-driven reporting and editing in newsrooms from Detroit to Harrisburg to San Francisco.
