The News Media Association has tapped Owen Meredith as its new chief executive officer. Meredith succeeds David Newell, who announced his retirement last year.
Meredith joins NMA from the Professional Publishers Association, where he is currently CEO. He has been with PPA for 7 years, joining as head of public affairs. He moved on to become director of external affairs and then served as managing director.
He is also a non-executive director at the Committee of Advertising Practice and NLA media access.
He has also worked as a project manager at the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Meredith says:
“The survival of the news media is vital to our nation’s future, yet commercial and regulatory threats risk undermining press freedom and the essential role of professional journalism.
“The NMA is at the forefront of protecting and promoting this all-important sector and I am excited by the opportunity to lead it through its next phase.
“I look forward to working with friends and allies across industry to secure a sustainable future for quality journalism.”
Meredith is a B.A. in Marketing and Oolitics from Keele University.
