David Ottewell has joined Be The Best Communications in UK, a data-driven PR, public affairs and digital communications agency, as head of communications, insight and data.
In his new role, Ottewell will find and tell stories that make an impact and use data and skills to give unique insight to new ways of communicating. Previously, he worked as a freelance media and communications consultant.
Ottewell joins from The New Statesman Media Group, where he helped design, recruit and manage a team of 13 data journalists and coder-designers as part of a major new editorial initiative by NSMG, with the aim to make data journalism integral to the work of the New Statesman itself as well as a number of high-profile new websites covering the global economy, banking, urban issues, the energy transition and technology.
He also held the same post at Reach plc and has served as a chief reporter, political editor and then as a hub news editor at Manchester Evening News.
