Boston Globe taps Payne as co-editor-in-chief of The Emancipator

The Boston Globe has appointed Amber Payne co-editor-in-chief of The Emancipator.

Payne is a 2021 Nieman fellow at Harvard University and an award-winning journalist who has previously worked as an executive producer at Tilt Shift Media.

She has also worked at BET, a subsidiary of Viacom Inc. and was an interim executive producer, news and analysis video at The Wall Street Journal. She was also executive producer at Teen Vogue.

Payne was also the founding managing editor of NBCBLK, the African American vertical at NBCnews.com. She has also worked as a producer and associate producer at NBC News.

She was also a researcher/production associate at NBC Nightly News.

Payne is a B.A. in media studies and studio art from University of Virginia.
