We’re pleased to welcome to the London corporate team Saabira Chaudhuri, who joins us to cover the fashionable ferment of the U.K. and European retail scene. With the region serving as a global pacesetter in everything from high luxury to online shopping, Saabira has a broad remit to help readers make sense of the retail landscape’s trends and tribulations. She’ll work closely with counterparts in other EMEA bureaus and elsewhere on retail stories that span borders, as so many do in this interconnected age.
Saabira comes to us from the Journal’s banking team in New York, where she has delivered sharp coverage of giants such as Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo since 2013. She started out at the Journal as an intern for Weekend Investor in 2011, where among other things she wrote an a-hed on the committee that picks the subjects for U.S. postal stamps. She has also worked as a corporate breaking-news reporter for Dow Jones Newswires. Previously, she worked at Forbes and Fast Company magazines in New York and for the business daily Mint in New Delhi. In 2010, she was named the Journal’s Asia fellow to New York University’s business and economic reporting master’s program.
Not entirely a stranger to London, Saabira previously spent a year studying at the London School of Economics. She also has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and philosophy from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. Saabira grew up in Bangalore, India, and among other things loves dogs, yoga and photography. She tweets at @SaabiraC.
Please join us in welcoming Saabira to London and the retail world.
