WSJ names new markets desk editor

Wall Street Journal deputy managing editor Rebecca Blumenstein sent out the following announcement on Thursday afternoon:

I’m pleased to announce that Bob Rose will become Editor of the Markets Desk for The Wall Street Journal.

We’re welcoming Bob back to the Journal to replace the very big shoes of Bill Power, who is being tapped to be the paper’s Day Editor.

Bob has worked as executive editor of SmartMoney for the past four years and had a long and storied career at the Journal. He had many roles at the paper — Atlanta bureau chief, an editor on the national desk in New York, deputy bureau chief in Chicago and a reporter who covered everything from manufacturing to personal finance. During a three-year defection from Dow Jones, he was the the business editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he led a staff of 25 reporters and editors.

Bob coauthored one of the classic aheds of all time, about the brave businessmen who wore short-sleeved dress shirts and ties to work. He drove a Winnebago for an ahed on their manufacturing problems and rode a Harley for a story on the motorcycle maker. Bob started his career as a reporter at the Toledo Blade and is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Bob is as unflappable as Bill and equally tough when it comes to deadlines and stories. He will play a key role in driving markets and financial coverage for all platforms.

Please join me wishing the best to both Bob and Bill.
