Hoelterhoff, founder of Bloomberg Muse, has died

Manuela V. Hoelterhoff, a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and editor who founded Bloomberg Muse, has died.

She was 77 and had been battling cancer.

Her career has included various assignments at The Wall Street Journal, including arts editor, books editor and member of the editorial board. She was founder and executive editor of Muse, Bloomberg’s arts and culture section for 10 years starting in 2004, producing segments for television and radio, and supervising 20,000 stories and reviews about architecture, books, theater, music, film, and dogs.

Hoelterhoff received a Pulitzer in 1983 for her columns. She helped launch Smart Money magazine in 1992.

In addition to the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, Hoelterhoff is the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship. The Carnegie Corporation included her in its 2014 list of notable immigrants.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
