WSJ makes moves in digital experience and strategy unit

Wall Street Journal chief news strategist Louise Story sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

Hi Everyone,

I’m excited to announce more great people in the WSJ’s Digital Experience and Strategy Unit (DXS):

The last of our Strategy Editors has been named. Sophie Warnes joins Strategy Editor for Visuals. She joins from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) where she was a Senior Data Journalist working to better explain statistics to the public, and brings her passion and experience of data, visuals, and strategy. Before ONS, Sophie worked at ITV News online on breaking news stories. Most significantly she worked at Reach (then Trinity Mirror) as a core staff member at Ampp3d, its ground-breaking take on data journalism. While there she worked on original stories, collaborating with developers, illustrators and other journalists to produce innovative content. She has also produced data journalism stories for The Guardian, and The Week, and started her career as an Online Picture Editor at The Independent.
Sophie joins the other Strategy Editors managed by Leslie Yazel, who runs our programming strategy team. She will work closely with our Visuals teams.

Kabir Seth has taken on an expanded role as DXS’s Chief Operating Officer and will continue in his role of VP, Product Strategy. In the past year Kabir has stepped up in helping to provide product leadership and operational excellence across our Product, Design and Engineering teams. More recently he has been working across the Digital Experience and Strategy Unit, contributing to the vision and execution of best-in-class news experiences. Effective immediately , he will also be leading the project and program team to help all parts of DXS move forward with great impact. Kabir has been with WSJ/Dow Jones for three and a half years, serving in a variety of strategic and operational roles. He has been a leader in Dow Jones’ Artificial Intelligence Center for Excellence, and a participant of the Accelerate program. Before the WSJ, he worked in a number of different industries including children’s media, travel and apparel.

Eleanore Park joins as SEO Editor from Off Duty where she was the digital publishing editor, overseeing their online strategy and digital packaging of special issues working with various teams across the newsroom, while also regularly contributing to the section’s food coverage. Eleanore managed the team’s audience traffic analytics and produced regular data reports looking at publishing times, views, read times and subscribers, dissecting bigger trends and setting goals for Off Duty. Prior to her career in journalism, Eleanore studied psychology and cognitive neuroscience and worked in sleep research labs, drawing behavioral conclusions based on extensive data analytics. She has also cooked professionally in restaurants including Zuni and State Bird Provisions in San Francisco.

Eleanore will work in the programming strategy team with Ed Hyatt, our Senior SEO Editor, who has made great strides in newsroom SEO.

Onward.

-Louise
