WSJ hires Wired’s Pierce as its personal tech columnist

David Pierce

Wall Street Journal global tech editor Jason Dean sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Colleagues,

I’m delighted to announce that David Pierce is joining The Wall Street Journal as a personal technology columnist.

David is perfectly suited for the role. He covered the subject thoughtfully and incisively in his previous role as a senior writer at Wired, where he worked for three years and wrote reviews and features, hosted videos, and helmed the Gadget Lab Podcast.

David got his start in tech journalism at the University of Virginia, where he began a blog and parlayed that into a gig as an assistant to tech columnist David Pogue. He went on to work as a consumer-tech analyst at PC Magazine, before serving as an editor at the Verge, where he worked with our personal-tech-and-video guru Joanna Stern, with whom he’ll be collaborating again in his new role.

Along the way he moved to California, met his now fiancée, and adopted a tiny dog named Finn. When he’s not working or walking the dog, David says he is often either watching sports (mostly basketball), playing sports (mostly soccer), trying to catch up on movies he missed in theaters, and goofing around with a bunch of new gadgets.

David starts Monday and will be based in San Francisco and work with personal tech editor/maestro Wilson Rothman.

Please join us in welcoming David and wishing him success.

Jason
