WSJ econ editor Bowers gives birth before nerd prom

Emily Heil of The Washington Post writes about how Wall Street Journal economics editor Becky Bowers got dressed up for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night — and then went into labor a month early.

Heil writes, “Bowers, who wasn’t due for nearly another month, was in a suite at the Washington Hilton on Saturday that she and her colleagues were using to get glammed up. The sequinned dress was on. Her hair had been professionally styled, and a makeup artist had expertly applied a red-carpet-ready look, from lipstick to false eyelashes.

“‘And then my water broke,’ she says. ‘I said, ‘Guys, someone get a picture of me now, because I’m going to the hospital.’ ‘

“Bowers was wheeled into the delivery room at Sibley Memorial in full formal get-up, to the amusement of the labor nurses.”
