Wall Street Journal editor Gerard Baker sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

I’m delighted to announce that Stephen Wisnefski is appointed Editor, Professional News.

In this enhanced role, Steve will continue to be responsible for all our news for professionals, including Dow Jones Newswires, our various WSJ Pro products and other initiatives.

News for a business audience – from traders to wealth managers to executives and others who simply want deeper reporting and analysis of specialized sectors of business – has always been at the heart of Dow Jones’ mission. In the face of expanding demand for quality news and information of direct utility for professionals, we must seize and develop new opportunities. Steve has led this undertaking for the last two years and will now drive us to further significant growth. In addition to overseeing Newswires, he will look for new openings and will collaborate closely across the whole of Dow Jones, especially with our data teams in Barcelona and elsewhere.

Steve celebrated his 20-year anniversary at Dow Jones last month. He started as a correspondent in the São Paulo bureau of Dow Jones Newswires, before becoming Brazil bureau chief. Among other roles at Newswires, Steve served as Latin America editor, Chicago bureau chief, energy and commodities chief and senior editor for the Americas.

Steve was the first head of the WSJ’s Real-Time Desk, overseeing its launch in 2014. In early 2016, he took on the role of Professional editor, guiding our efforts to serve business and financial professionals with specialized content that helps them do their jobs, understand their industries and advance their careers.

Steve, a graduate of Northwestern who was raised in Wisconsin and born in Chile, lives in Cranford, NJ with his wife Patricia and sons Max and Leo.

Please join me in congratulating Steve on his appointment.

Gerry
