Wisconsin biz editor begins new job

Larry Avila, a business journalist for much of his 16-year professional career, began work Monday as The Appleton Post-Crescent’s business editor, according to a story in Tuesday’s paper.

Avila, 38, comes to the Fox Valley from The Naperville (Ill.) Sun, where he had been business editor since October 2003. He had been managing editor of The Business Ledger (Oak Brook, Ill.) and editor of The Business Journal (Crystal Lake, Ill.).

“We’re excited to find someone of Larry’s experience and ability,” said Dan Flannery, the P-C’s managing editor, in the story. “He has experience in both print and online journalism, an important combination as we improve the quality and quantity of our Web-based content.”

At The P-C, Avila leads a three-person staff, including veteran reporters Pete Bach and Maureen Wallenfang.
