Washington Post hires Recode’s Romm to cover tech

Tony Romm

Washington Post national economy and business editor David Cho, deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb and assignment editor Christina Passariello sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

We are thrilled to announce that Tony Romm is joining The Washington Post as a technology policy reporter.

Tony comes to The Post from Recode, where he served as senior editor of policy and politics. Before that, he spent roughly seven years at Politico, where he helped launch the Morning Tech newsletter and later became a senior technology reporter.

Tony will cover the intersection of Washington and Silicon Valley, documenting how tech giants such as Apple, Facebook and Google navigate the corridors of government amid the rising clamor for greater regulation of their businesses. He’ll be based in Washington.

Over the course of his career, he has broken major stories, including federal mismanagement of billions of dollars in broadband funds and Apple’s sharp split with Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election. Tony earned his bachelor’s degree from American University, where he studied journalism and international relations. He hails from Philadelphia — and like his friends and family back home, he’s still celebrating the Eagles’ first Super Bowl victory.

Tony will start February 20. Please join us in welcoming him to the newsroom.
