Katishi Maake, the sports business and hospitality reporter at the Washington Business Journal, is leaving the paper.
Maake writes, “After joining the Business Journal as a digital producer in 2018, I took on the sports business, hospitality, restaurant and retail reporter role just before Thanksgiving 2019. I was excited to cover the region’s bustling restaurant scene, the evolution of D.C. sports following Stanley Cup and World Series championships and a tourism sector that brings in millions of people every year.
“Those three months between my taking on this beat and the start of the pandemic seem like just a few weeks ago. Since then, obviously so much about Greater Washington, and the world, has changed.
“Many businesses died while others were born into the pandemic — both tragic and inspiring to watch and document. It has been a great privilege to cover industries, businesses and people who have faced such intense hardship over these past 10 months. I am so fortunate that I could largely do this job from the safety and comfort of my apartment while those entrepreneurs faced countless difficult, even life-or-death, decisions.”
