Gayle R. Robbins, associate news editor and business editor of the Vincennes Sun-Commercial, has been appointed managing editor, the Associated Press reported. The announcement was made by Publisher Vickie K. Palmer.
Robbins is a descendent of Elihu Stout, who in 1804 began the Indiana Gazette in Vincennes, the first newspaper printed in the Indiana Territory. The paper later became the Sun-Commercial.
Robbins, who succeeds Bernie Schmitt, has been at the newspaper since 2001.
Before joining the Sun-Commercial, Robbins was a business consultant and corporate communications director. He previously was managing editor and associate publisher of The Evening World in Bloomfield and The Bloomfield News, and was a correspondent for United Press International.
