Alex Norcia, who covered the tobacco and vaping industry as well as labor for Vice Media, was among those laid off at the news organization on Friday.
He has been covering those beats since July 2018 and previously was a copy editor for more than two years at Vice.
“It was a thrill editing the print magazine, and it was a thrill reporting for the site, especially about the vape world I fell into,” he wrote on Twitter.
Norcia previously was a news assistant at the New York Times. He is a graduate of Boston University.
