Triangle Business Journal founder Reeves has died

Bernie Reeves

Bernie Reeves, the founder of the Triangle Business Journal, died Saturday at the age of 70.

Marc DeRoberts of the Business Journal writes, “The Raleigh native graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in history and worked in media sales and marketing consulting. He founded the weekly publication Spectator Magazine in 1978. The magazine was acquired by Creative Loafing in 1997, and that company was later acquired by longtime Spectator competitor Carolina Independent Publications in 2002.

“Reeves further branched out his publishing pursuits when he started Triangle Business Journal – then Triangle Business – in 1985. He later expanded to the Greensboro and Winston-Salem metros with the addition of a Triad paper. Triangle Business Journal was acquired by its current parent company, American City Business Journals, in 1991.

“Other publications that Reeves launched include North Carolina Architect, Raleigh Bicentennial Magazine and Raleigh Metro Magazine. He also co-founded the North Carolina Film & Video Festival in 1995.”
