Associate editor Tess Townsend, who left tech news site Recode last year, is now pursuing freelancing.
Townsend said on Twitter that she is moving to Sacramento to do water, agriculture and environmental reporting. She also plans to do copywriting for startups.
She covered Alphabet and Google for Recode before leaving this past summer. Before joining Recode, she covered tech and startups for Inc. magazine and reported on local government for newspapers including The Day in New London, Conn., and Roswell, New Mexico’s Roswell Daily Record.
She is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley. After college, she spent a year in China.
