That’s what Elizabeth Bauchner, editor and publisher of the Ithaca Community News, states, and she uses as an example business coverage.
Bauchner writes: “One of my main motivating factors for publishing ICN is I’ve worked for newspapers and have been frustrated by the limitations imposed on me by editors and publishers. The press is liberal in nature but conservative in practice, meaning that the press was created to keep the government in check and originally helped to serve that purpose, but now the news largely protects its owners over the public. Here’s one example: All newspapers have a business section; none have a labor section.”
