Matthew Doig has been hired by tech news site The Information as its investigations editor.
The Information has had a strong year in investigative journalism, between the Justin Caldbeck story that preceded all of the sexual harassment coverage across multiple industries, and revealing Uber’s “Hell” program.
The Information is hoping to double its reporting staff by the end of 2018. Doig joins other recent hires, including Aaron Tilley, who will be covering Apple and the broader hardware sector, and Sarah Kuranda, who is covering cybersecurity.
Doig will be based in Los Angeles through summer 2018, and then move to San Francisco.
Doig has worked as an editor at the Los Angeles Times, the Seattle Times, Newsday in New York and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in Florida.
After joining Newsday in 2012, Doig built an investigative team and edited a series published a year later on police misconduct and secrecy that was a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for Public Service. He also helped create an investigations team in Sarasota, where he co-wrote two series that were Pulitzer finalists.
Doig is also the author of what Forbes magazine called “The Best Journalism Job Ad Ever” – a help-wanted post that inadvertently went viral.
