Teller, former Philly Inquirer deputy biz editor, dies at 99

Oscar Teller, who was the real estate editor and deputy business editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer, has died at the age of 99.

Bonnie Cook of The Inquirer writes, “Mr. Teller was the paper’s real estate editor for two decades, and worked for a time as deputy business editor. He retired in 1977 after a 30-year career.

“Mr. Teller kept things lively in the newsroom with his outrageous stories, some of which made such an impression that they were repeated, word for word, by his protégés years later.

“Mr. Teller was active in the Newspaper Guild, and at the time of his death was the oldest continuous member of the Newspaper Guild-Communication Workers of America. He was the local bargaining unit’s president in the 1970s.”
