Tan, former editor of Barron’s Asia, resigns

Kopin Tan

Kopin Tan, former editor of Barron’s Asia, has resigned.

Tan has spent 18 and a half years at Dow Jones & Co. and 12 and a half years at Barron’s. Most recently, he has been writing features and columns for the U.S. Barron’s.

“It’s been said that people don’t leave jobs, they leave managers,” wrote Tan on Facebook. “That’s true in my case. All but one of the remaining Barron’s Asia staff have also resigned.”

Before overseeing Barron’s Asia, which launched in 2014, Tan wrote the “Streetwise” column, offering a forward-looking take on the financial markets, illuminating market trends and identifying investment opportunities.  He also wrote a variety of cover stories and feature articles for Barron’s.

Before that, Tan wrote “The Trader” column, covering the U.S. stock market for several years. He has also covered Asia and the options markets for Barron’s. He is a former attorney.

In 2011, Tan was awarded the prestigious East-West Center Fellowship to China and Hong Kong. In 2006, he was part of a team that won an award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in the breaking news category. In 2002, he won the Harrison Roth Memorial Award for best options coverage.
