Sarah Adler of the San Francisco Chronicle profiled Kara Swisher, co-executive editor of The Wall Street Journal‘s tech site All Things Digital.
Adler writes, “Swisher got her first job as a stringer for the Washington Post as an undergraduate at Georgetown University after she challenged Larry Kramer (then the Metro editor, now president and publisher at USA Today) with complaints of erroneous and sloppy coverage. She went on to become a business reporter and later wrote the definitive story on the AOL/Time Warner debacle.
“Later hired by the Wall Street Journal, she started the website All Things Digital with Journal colleague and tech columnist Walt Mossberg. They serve as co-executive editors of the site, which is owned by Dow Jones & Co. Inc. and is known for breaking Silicon Valley news, exclusive interviews with tech leaders and pithy headlines.
“‘Kara is humanely tough, snarky but never mean,’ Mossberg said. ‘That’s a hard balance to strike and she does it well.’
“They also created and co-produce one of the industry’s top annual conferences, D: All Things Digital. Top leaders like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have appeared on stage with Swisher and Mossberg without canned remarks or prepared slides.”
