Startup Colorado Sun plans to cover the state’s economy

The Colorado Sun, a new publication in Denver backed by startup Civil, plans to cover the state’s economy through in-depth stories instead of writing about earnings and covering press releases, said one of its editors.

The Sun has hired Tamara Chuang and Jason Blevins to cover business and economics stories, and they will be overseen by Dana Coffield, who formerly oversaw business news coverage at The Denver Post.

Blevins will be hitting the mountain economy hard, as well as writing regular features about businesses that are changing the way people access the outdoors, said Coffield, one of the editors leading the Sun.

Chuang will cover tech, but will also look at economic issues.

“I’m pretty excited about the whole thing,” said Coffield. “I am happy that we’re actually starting to produce journalism — baby steps with publishing stories in our twice-weekly newsletters and a full launch of ColoradoSun.com early in September.”

Blevins previously covered tourism, mountain business, skiing and outdoor adventure sports for both the business and sports sections at The Post, which he joined in 1997. Chuang previously covered personal technology and local tech news for The Post.

Coffield added, “I’m also enthusiastic about getting to focus more on the economy in Colorado. It’s so diverse, wildly challenging and interesting every single day.”
