John Stancavage, who was business editor of the Tulsa World from 1996 to 2013, died Friday at the age of 59.
Tim Stanley of the World writes, “Stancavage had a 37-year association with the Tulsa World. He was best known as its award-winning business editor, a post he held from 1996 until 2013. He continued to contribute regular columns and stories through 2015.
“‘We’ve lost not only a great journalist but a friend,’ said Susan Ellerbach, executive editor of the Tulsa World. The two worked together for more than 20 years.
“‘John’s expertise in the Tulsa business community was limitless. His absence has been truly missed,’ she said.
“A lifelong Tulsan, Stancavage was a graduate of East Central High School and the University of Tulsa, from which he held a degree in journalism.
“He joined the World as a sports intern in 1981. The next year he was called on to help launch the Tulsa Business Chronicle, a weekly business tabloid put out by World Publishing Co. In the next decade, he advanced to managing editor of the Chronicle.”
