NY Times hires Singh as business and tech reporter in India

Karan Deep Singh

Karan Deep Singh has been hired by the New York Times as a reporter covering business and tech in Delhi.

Singh will also work on visual journalism, New York Times Video, from the region, according to his tweet.

Singh worked as a staff reporter and video journalist covering South Asia for The Wall Street Journal from August 2014 till January 2019.

He won the 2017 Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Award for “Excellence in Video Reporting” — Asia’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. In 2018, he received an Honorable Mention for “Excellence in Reporting on the Environment” from the SOPA Awards committee.

Singh was part of the WSJ team that produced a documentary about cryptocurrencies in Asia

He has also spent time working as a freelancer for the Times for both the business desk and the video operation. Additionally, Singh was correspondent at HT Media Limited and served as an intern and freelancer at BBC.

Singh has a B.A. in journalism, communication and media studies from Delhi University. He also holds a M.A. in convergent journalism, communication and media studies from Jamia Millia Islamia.
