November 18, 2008

David Satterfield, the managing editor of the San Jose Mercury News and the paper’s former business and technology editor, is leaving for a job at public relations firm Sitrick & Co.

Before working at the Mercury News, Satterfield was a business reporter for the Miami Herald for 17 years. When he joined the Mercury News as business editor, he was supervising a staff of 70 reporters and editors with bureaus in New York, Washington and Seattle. Now, the Mercury News business desk is about half that size.

He has deep expertise in banking, technology, insurance and economics reporting.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Sitrick team and look forward to demonstrating the firm’s extraordinary capabilities to Silicon Valley companies, law firms and individuals,” Satterfield said in a statement. “Sitrick is recognized by many in the media as the best of the best. While I will dearly miss the newspaper business and the people with whom I have worked, this is an opportunity I could not pass up.”
