The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing has selected Karen K. Ho and Myra A. Thomas as recipients of the Sho Fellowship for the SABEW20 virtual conference on Nov. 17-20.
The Sho Fellowship, awarded to journalists of color, is offered in honor of SABEW board member Shobhana (Sho) Chandra, who passed away in February 2019. Sho was an economics reporter for Bloomberg News.
Ho has been a business reporter her entire journalism career in Canada and the US after several years in retail banking. In addition to her current role as global finance and economics reporter at Quartz, she has been published in Time, GQ, Wealthsimple, The Daily Beast, Columbia Journalism Review, The Globe and Mail, the San Francisco Chronicle and many other outlets. Karen has a Masters in business and economics reporting from the Columbia School of Journalism.
Thomas is an award-winning business, finance and tech editor and journalist. Prior to becoming a journalist, she had a successful career as a senior-level finance executive. That experience lends an in-depth level of knowledge to the business, finance and tech stories Myra writes. Her journalism experience includes editing and writing for finance magazines and business newspapers, as well as finance and tech websites, custom publications, media organizations and business academic journals.
The Fellows will attend specialized sessions on race and income inequality and newsroom diversity.
