SABEW President Wolk leaves MSN Money

Marty Wolk, the president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, has left his job as managing editor of MSN Money as part of companywide layoffs.

In an email to Talking Biz News, Wolk writes, “Like many others at MSN and across Microsoft, I was caught up in the latest wave of layoffs at the company. Although my job was eliminated, I am continuing to explore options both within and outside the company. I’m doing a lot of networking, and I’m happy to hear from friends and colleagues. I’m also devoting a lot of time to SABEW, planning future events and helping our new executive director, Kathleen Graham, settle into her role.”

At MSN Money, he oversaw editorial content on one of the most widely read financial websites, with more than 18 million unique users, 300 million page views and 8 million video streams per month.

The move comes more than a year after MSN Money cut content from freelancers and contractors and instead began running content exclusively from partners such as The Wall Street Journal.

Previously he worked as executive business editor at NBC News Digital (formerly msnbc.com), overseeing business and money coverage at nbcnews.com and Today.com. He is winner of two Best in Business awards, including one for best real-time column.

He also has served as a senior correspondent for Reuters, where he covered Microsoft and Boeing, and as a newspaper reporter and editor at The (Raleigh) News and Observer and Chronicle-Telegram.
