Marilyn Thompson, the Washingon bureau chief for Reuters, made the following staff promotion announcement on Monday:
I am pleased to announce that David Lindsey will be our new deputy Washington bureau chief, helping manage staff and elevating our coverage during this critical time. David, who as Washington Editor-at-large has worked most closely with campaign coverage, will expand his portfolio and work with EICs to shape coverage and improve content in all subject areas.
David grew up in Austin and still considers himself a Texan — even though he’s been in Washington for 24 years and everyone back home thinks he talks funny. Mary Milliken lured him away late last year from USA Today, where he oversaw the paper’s premiere enterprise stories each day. His work as coverage editor ranged from special projects and government accountability reports to stories on personal finance and pop culture.
Before that, he was a national editor for USA Today, working with a team of eight reporters (including our Joan Biskupic) who covered the Supreme Court, Justice Department, FBI, terrorism and legal trends.
David and I first met during his 12 years at The Washington Post. He was a reporter and editor on the Metro staff, and he ran the Post’s coverage of the D.C. government before leaving for USA Today in 2000.
David graduated from the University of Texas and was a reporter and editor at the Dallas Times Herald before coming to the Post.
