Megan McCarthy, who had been news editor at the New York Observer for the past year, has been hired by Reuters.
Although there has been no internal announcement, McCarthy confirmed the change on Twitter this morning.
Paul Smalera, deputy editor of Reuters Opinion, tells Talking Biz News in an email that he and McCarthy “will be working on technology coverage on Reuters.com.”
Prior to joining The Observer, McCarthy was the first dedicated human editor at Techmeme, the algorithm-based technology-focused news aggregator. In March, 2010 she became the founding editor of Mediagazer, a Techmeme spinoff dedicated to aggregating the top media industry news of the day.
Previously she covered Silicon Valley startups for Wired.com and the Gawker Media blog Valleywag.
