Real estate reporter leaves California paper

Rosalie Murphy

Rosalie Murphy, the real estate reporter at The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, California, left the paper on Friday after three years.

Murphy was the Gold Award Winner of the Ruth Ryon Award for Best Young Journalist for reporters 30 years old and younger from the National Association of Real Estate Editors earlier this year.

Judges wrote, “In a well researched and highly interesting article that clearly was one of the best stories in the contest, the writer offered a sober reminder to real estate buyers to pay careful attention when they buy or lease property.”

Murphy also covered transportation issues, small business and the cannabis industry for The Desert Sun. She has also won awards in the Society of American Business Editors and Writers Best in Business contest.

In the past, she also reported on religion for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and written about Earth science at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

She studied print and digital journalism, history and Russian at the University of Southern California
