Quartz seeks a creative, versatile business editor to develop and articulate a forward-looking vision and thesis for our coverage of a range of consumer-focused industries. We’re looking for someone who can work with reporters to translate news developments into smart stories with important context, whether formatted as brief insights, email newsletters, or deep dives that help our readers understand trends and see around corners.
The ideal candidate is interested in topics that Quartz is obsessed with, like climate change, the future of capitalism, and the immersive internet, and can find ways to tell stories about the business of healthcare, food, or entertainment through those lenses. We are looking for a careful editor who is as comfortable with data-driven reporting as they are with narrative, who thinks about business and society in global terms, and who can draw from their own experience covering the finances and strategies of companies to provide thoughtful guidance to the reporters on their team and to the newsroom at large.
This role is best suited to a journalist with at least 7 years of editing experience, as well as experience managing people (our editors typically manage 3-5 reporters each). Location is flexible but an ability to work during US business hours is a must. To apply, please submit a resume, a cover letter telling us what you could bring to this role, and five links to relevant work (this can include stories you’ve written or edited).
