Jay Lauf, senior vice president and publisher of Quartz, the business news site from The Atlantic, sent out the following message on Tuesday:
One year ago today, a team of 25 journalists, developers, marketers, and business professionals launched Quartz. Just 12 months later, Quartz has grown faster than we could have possibly imagined. In its first three months of operation, Quartz attracted 3.5 million unique visitors. Now we reach that number every month!
The idea of Quartz came from the notion that the global economic order is vastly different than what it used to be, and that business news must innovate to embody this new era. The site has already won numerous awards for its journalism and design in pursuit of that ideal.
As we look forward to the next twelve months, you will also see more of Quartz, both online and in person. Quartz has already hosted 15 live events and we are getting ready to launch our first large-scale conference in November, The Next Billion: A Forum on the Connected World.
To those of you who read Quartz and share its content and offer your feedback – thank you! We hope we can continue to keep you coming back.
To those forward-thinking brands who have embraced us – we could not have undertaken the endeavor or delivered on our mission as we have without your support and creativity. So today, I want to thank each of our 30+ advertisers and event underwriters — in addition to our four original launch partners, Boeing, Cadillac, Chevron and Credit Suisse — who have helped Quartz rocket off the launch pad.
