Ed Pound, a former investigative reporter for The Wall Street Journal, has died.

He worked at The Journal from April 1982 to April 1993 in the Washington bureau. He was “one of the greatest and most honorable investigative journalists of a generation,” wrote former Journal colleague Walt Mossberg on Twitter.

Pound was also an investigative reporter for The New York Times, US News & World Report, USA Today and the National Journal. He also led Al Jazeera America’s 16-person investigative reporting unit.

His investigative stories covered a wide range of topics including Iran-Contra, HUD, Abu Ghraib, Jack Abramoff influence peddling, numerous Clinton White House scandals, the International Olympic scandal, among many others. His stories on abuses in the issuance of security clearances at the Defense Department spurred legislative reforms.

Pound also worked as director of communications for the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, an independent federal agency that tracks how funds are spent under the economic stimulus program.
