Joseph Porcello, the business editor of the Herald-Journal newspaper in Syracuse, N.Y., from 1971 to 1986, died Sunday at the age of 89, according to a story in the Syracuse Post-Standard.
Scott Rapp writes, “Porcello joined the now-defunct newspaper in March 1951 and served as business editor from 1971 until he retired in 1986. He won many awards and was a founding member and past president of the Syracuse Press Club.
“‘He had a reputation for being a hard worker, for being accurate and for being one of the best,’ said Stephen A. Rogers, editor and publisher of The Post-Standard.
“In 1999, the press club honored Porcello with its Gus Bliven-Joe Ganley-Mario Rossi Career Achievement Award. A year later, Porcello was in the first class of 13 journalists inducted onto the club’s ‘Wall of Distinction,’ which hangs at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center.”
