Washington Post national editor Cameron Barr and deputy national editor Scott Wilson sent out the following announcement on Thursday:
We’re very excited to announce that Dave Clarke has joined us as deputy editor of a new project focused on power in Washington.
Dave comes to The Washington Post from Politico, where he had been the financial services editor since July 2012. He led a team of five reporters covering Congress, financial regulators and political fights over Wall Street’s influence in Washington.
Before that, Dave spent two years as the Washington banking correspondent for Reuters where he covered the implementation of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform law, Elizabeth Warren’s efforts to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and government settlements with big banks over foreclosure abuses.
Dave is an expert in the world of budget and appropriations, having served as editor of CQ’s Budget Tracker and after that, for three years as CQ’s budget and economics reporter. In that role, he covered the debates over war funding, the clash between Democrats and President Bush over domestic spending and congressional consideration of President Obama’s economic stimulus proposal.
He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and later earned a master’s degree from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. Dave comes from Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., and remains a Mets fan with unflagging confidence that this is their year.
