Michael Parks, a Los Angeles Times Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, has died at the age of 78 due to kidney failure and a heart attack.
He died at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena late Saturday after suddenly falling ill at home before dawn, according to his son, Christopher Parks.
Parks had served as a foreign correspondent for 25 years, first for the Baltimore Sun and then for the Times. From 1980 to 1995, he worked as a bureau chief in Beijing, Johannesburg, Moscow and Jerusalem.
After serving as a top editor for the Times, he taught at the USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism for 20 years.
There, he also had two stints as director of its journalism school.
Parks is survived by his wife, sons, two sisters and four grandchildren.
