Papers create blogs to cover tech

It seems only natural to start a blog to cover the biggest geek fest of the year. At least two papers have started new technology blogs in the first week of the year, using the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas as their news peg.

The New York Times launched a blog called “Bit” this weekend. Among the writers on the blog are technology reporter Damon Darlin and columnist David Pogue.

A short note on the blog stated, “The Times’s top technology reporters are helping sift through the newest gadgets and trends, reporting from the floors of the Consumer Electronics Show and the Macworld convention.”

In addition, the Denver Post started a new technology blog written by tech reporter Kimberly Johnson, who has been at the paper for more than two years and covered technology for the past 18 months.

Johnson wrote, “While this blog — primarily maintained by yours truly — is designed to cover news and provoke insightful discussion, it is also my goal to make it fun and exciting, and perhaps just a bit quirky. Let’s face it, when it’s not being a used to increase productivity, technology is downright fun. “I look forward to your comments, as I’m a strong believer in the Web as a strong community builder. Let’s make this community great. And while we’re at it, break some news.”

Her colleague and “beat buddy Andy Vuong covers telecommunications, wireless, cable, gaming, and sports business. Naturally their beats tend to overlap. You can check out his new blog here.

Meanwhile, CNBC.com’s Jim Goldman has also been covering the CES on his new Tech Check blog. And The Wall Street Journal has had a CES blog found here.

Do you know of another new tech blog at a biz desk? If so, let me know, and I’ll add them.
