Mark Sutter, who is leaving his position as editor of the Triad Business Journal after nine years, writes about his job.
Sutter writes, “My stint as editor of the Triad Business Journal has been nothing less than an honor. I’ve enjoyed nearly every minute of it. After two decades in daily newspapers, coming to TBJ in 2007 was a chance to learn new things, work with incredible people and — this part might surprise you – play a major role in something I have strongly regarded as a public service to the Triad community of which I am a resident, homeowner, consumer and taxpayer.
“For me, and many others in my field, journalism is something of a calling. You don’t make a lot of money, often don’t get a lot of recognition and occasionally are on the short end of clichéd scorn for being part of the “mass media.” But the negatives are far outweighed by the contribution we know our work is making.
“In the case of the Triad Business Journal, I believe that means serving as an unwavering contributor to the economic health and welfare of the Triad community.
“We do it in multiple ways.
“Most directly, we help businesses do more business — by bringing our readers breaking and valuable news about changes within the business community. This can include new projects, businesses hiring and expanding, new products and services being offered and so on.”
