Paula Burkes, a business reporter at The Oklahoman, is retiring at the age of 61.
She has been with the Oklahoman since 2001.
After earning a journalism degree from Oklahoma State University in 1981, Burkes wrote for the Tulsa Tribune, Claremore Progress and Broken Arrow Ledger, before building a career in corporate communications including six and half years in Boston with the Massachusetts General Hospital and others.
She writes, “I’ve since tapped my own life to educate readers on everything from battling identify theft, the costs of adopting and divorce, and the need for wills and trusts, to non-compete agreements, domestic partner benefits and most recently, workplace issues in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
“The stories of which I’m proudest include raising awareness about a little-known veterans pension and educating readers about Obamacare.”
