NY Times hires Edmund Lee to be corporate media reporter

New York Times business editor Ellen Pollock sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

I’m thrilled to announce that Edmund Lee will be joining Biz Day as a corporate media reporter based in New York.

Ed joins us from Recode, where he has been managing editor, overseeing a group of editors and reporters, since 2014. He was part of the team that won a SABEW award for Recode’s coverage of Twitter.

Prior to that Ed was a reporter at Bloomberg News, where he covered News Corp., Time Warner and Comcast, among others, and at Advertising Age, where he covered Google, Yahoo and Facebook. He has also written for Portfolio and Women’s Wear Daily.

Ed started his career at The Village Voice, where he distinguished himself by showing up for an interview at the bar at the Four Seasons wearing torn jeans and and taped up shoes, only to be denied entry. The maitre’d told him that if wanted to get anywhere in New York, “you can’t look like that,” which turned into some of the best career advice he ever received.

Ed has covered the New York TImes in the past, and knows a ton of his new colleagues. But the Grab-and-Go  may be new to him, so hopefully there will be a few surprises in store for him.

Ed, who lives in Brooklyn with his family, will start on June 11.
