Newsday reporter Bauman joins Daily Mail to cover jobs/economy

Newsday reporter Valerie Bauman has joined The Daily Mail’s New York bureau to cover national social affairs and trends.

That means she will be covering immigration, jobs and the economy, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Bauman joined Newsday in September. 2014 and covered the town of Islip. Before that, she worked at the Puget Sound Business Journal covering health care policy and the marijuana industry.

Before joining the American City Business Journals paper, Bauman worked for the Weber Shandwick public relations firm for 17 months.

She formerly reported for five years for the Associated Press in Albany, New York, and other locations.

She has a degree from Western Washington University.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
