News & Observer to cut weekend stock listings

February 12, 2006

The News & Observer, the newspaper in Raleigh, announced in its Sunday paper that it was cutting its weekend stock listings but also making some other changes to its business coverage.

Melanie SillExecutive Editor Melanie Sill stated the changes in her column. They are:

1. The week’s-end stock tables will appear Saturdays instead of Sundays. The paper will not publish stock tables on Sundays.

2. The tables Saturday will include the 52-week high and low and the week’s high and low, material now found Sundays.

3. The paper will also add a local business page on Saturdays. On Sundays, look for a new consumer column in the Work & Money section.

The business editor at the paper, Mary Cornatzer, spoke to my Business Reporting class on Feb. 1, and said that the changes cut four pages of stock listings on Sunday but add one page of listings on Saturday and one page of news hole on Saturday as well.
