New editor at Puget Sound Business Journal

Puget Sound Business Journal Managing Editor George Erb has been named editor of the publication by incoming Publisher Emory Thomas Jr.

Thomas, who has held the editor position since June 2004, will be succeeding longtime Publisher Mike Flynn on April 17. Flynn is retiring from the paper after nearly a quarter century at its helm.

Erb first joined the Business Journal in 1997 as a reporter, covering government, legal affairs and other topics. He won numerous journalism awards for his work, and in 2003 was promoted to managing editor.

“The Business Journal and the Puget Sound area are fortunate to have someone of George’s talent and integrity in such a key position,” Thomas said. “George is widely respected, and his deep commitment to quality will serve this community well.”

Prior to joining the Business Journal, Erb worked for several newspapers in Washington, including the South County Journal in Kent, the Peninsula Daily News in Port Angeles, and the Highline Times in Burien. He also has served on several media industry boards, including a 2000-2001 tenure as president of the Western Washington chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Erb obtained a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Oregon, and he also is a graduate of Hanover College in Hanover, Ind.
