New business columnist at Orlando Sentinel

Beth Kassab, who has been a business reporter at the Orlando Sentinel for the past seven years, becomes its business columnist, writing three times a week.

She replaces Susan Strother Clarke, who died unexpectedly last year.

Kassab wrote, “In my seven years as a reporter at the Sentinel, I’ve chronicled many changes: Orlando International Airport’s growth as the largest airport in Florida; landmark deals to fill in the city’s skyline; and even NASCAR’s attempt to break from its Southern roots and appeal to more affluent, diverse fans.

“My local ties stretch back further than my job. I’m from here.

“I was born at Winter Park Hospital, graduated from Lake Brantley High School and earned a journalism degree from the University of Florida.”

She ended with: “Susan Strother Clarke, who occupied this space before me, was a friend I laughed with often and a colleague I respected. Her sudden death in September left much unfinished — columns she never wrote, tips she would have tracked down if only given the time. I’m grateful for the inspiration I still take from her sharp sense of humor, infectious energy and vigorous pursuit of the truth.”
