New biz editor in Hartford

Dan Haar, an assistant business editor and columnist for the Hartford Courant, has been named the paper’s new business editor. He succeeds George Gombossy, who stepped down earlier this year to write an investigative consumer column.

Courant reporter Kenneth Gosselin wrote, “Haar’s career at The Courant spans more than 20 years, 10 of them in business news. He covered a variety of industries and wrote extensively about the economy. He later became a business columnist, and last year took on additional duties as assistant business editor.

“‘After exemplary service in the department as a reporter, columnist and most recently as an assistant business editor, Dan Haar is ready to apply his seemingly boundless enthusiasm to this new challenge and intends to make sure the rest of the department does, too,’ Assistant Managing Editor Naedine Hazell said in an e-mail to the newsroom.

“Haar began in journalism as a free-lance photographer for The Courant in 1981, the same week he graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown. A year later, he joined The Courant as a full-time staff photographer and covered the World Series in 1986.

“He became a reporter in 1987 and covered several towns, including Suffield, East Windsor and East Hartford. He also pursued a longstanding interest in business, writing a regional business column.”
